Brand: Clovers Garden
The Old German heirloom tomatoes have been around a long time, being first introduced in the early 1800's. These tomatoes are in the beefsteak family and do not disappoint with their consistent delivery of large (1.5 lbs. and over) appealing and tasty tomatoes. Old German Tomatoes are both delicious and beautiful with succulent, meaty fruit and golden streaked, lobster-red skin. They have a delicious bold, yet sweet flavor with very few seeds. It is a very attractive addition to salads. It can be served fresh but is also great for canning and preserving. Unlike other beefsteaks, though, Old German Heirloom Tomato is not a heavy producer, nor does it tolerate drought, but its flavor and color are outstanding. Fruit weighs on average 1 ½ to 2 lbs. Place plants 30-36 inches apart in moist well- draining soil. Mulching is a good idea, as these tomatoes are not drought resistant and need regular watering. When planting these and all other tomatoes, plant to a soil depth just beneath the first set of leaves. That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root, thus a stronger plant. Cages or staking is required for this large (6 foot tall plus) plant. It is a late summer producer, with an 85 day maturity (from seeding). It is not a heavy producer, but will produce until first frost.

Toscana strawberries are resistant to the cold, so expect to continue harvesting berries into the fall season. Great for eating fresh picked, use these tomatoes for sandwiches and salads and their uniform size makes them perfect for preserving and canning also. Place tomato plants 18 -24 inches apart in a sunny garden location in a normal well-draining soil. When planting these and all other tomatoes, plant to a soil depth just beneath the first set of leaves. That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off.
